Media is the public home for the story page (context, chapters, sources, and what in the picture is a record). AI Studios is the production identity and YouTube home for the film.

What this episode covers

A short cinematic film about the Linde plant at 175 East Park Drive in the Town of Tonawanda, where uranium ore was processed for the Manhattan Engineer District from 1942 to 1946. The companion page stays with the March 29, 1944 disposal record, the seven wells, and the later FUSRAP cleanup. Gallon estimates and cleanup totals are kept apart when the federal pages use different numbers or different words.

Love Canal is the other western New York story in the series. It is a Niagara Falls chemical landfill and a Superfund case. Tonawanda is not that site.

The picture mixes dated government photographs, maps, an attributed transcription, and labeled reconstructions. The original 1944 letter is not shown, because it has not been located. The February 1, 1981 New York Times page is not shown. Educational only. Not medical, legal, or environmental advice.

Why a companion page

YouTube is where the film plays. The Media page is where the sources stay put:

  • Stable URL and credits
  • Chapters and the Holmes transcription, labeled as a transcription
  • Cleanup totals in the agency’s own words
  • Links to the Department of Energy and Army Corps pages for the Tonawanda sites
  • The rest of Historic Minds, including Love Canal

Series so far

  1. Marie Curie: She Made the Invisible Glow
  2. Love Canal: They Built a School on a Chemical Dump
  3. Krakatoa 1883: The Loudest Sound in Human History
  4. The Ball Method: Published Without Her
  5. Tonawanda: The Radioactive History Hiding in Plain Sight

More Historic Minds episodes will follow the same pattern: ship on YouTube, present on JabMed Media.
