Plankwalk
Hangman on the pirate plank - guess the word before the sharks.
Plankwalk is pirate hangman for the browser. A secret word sits on the plank. Every wrong letter walks you closer to the sharks. Guess it in time and the voyage holds. Miss six times and the crew shoves you in.
Play only here: /play/plankwalk/. That is the canonical build on JabMed Media. An older hostname, plankwalk.jabmedholdings.com, permanently redirects to this page so bookmarks still work.
The game is free. No download. It works in a desktop browser and as a mobile web / Add to Home Screen app. Guest play saves on the device you are using. Optional studio support helps fund the next voyage.
Crew (optional)
Tap Sign in in the top bar. That username is your JabMed account — the same name in The Chart Room and Critical Mass. Charts, lab notes, and plank progress stay with that name when you hop games or pick up on another device.
Currencies are not shared. Doubloons in Plankwalk do not buy reagents in the lab. Guest progress still works if you never join crew.
How to play
- A hidden word (or short phrase) is dealt for the run.
- Type A–Z or tap the on-screen QWERTY keys.
- Correct letters fill every matching slot. Repeats do not cost a miss.
- Each unique wrong letter is one step down the plank. Six misses is a loss.
- Reveal every letter before the sixth miss to win the voyage.
You do not need to know pirate trivia. Words are ordinary English. The plank, the sharks, and the music are the pressure — not a lore exam.
Power-ups
- Spyglass (Hint) — reveals a letter. One free use per run; further uses cost doubloons.
- Parrot (Eliminate) — drops two letters that are not in the word.
- Mute from the deck if you want a quiet watch.
Ads, when they exist, will never sit over the keyboard or interrupt a guess in progress. The in-game shop already has a Black Flag path for players who want to skip between-voyage promos later. That product is a stub until ads are actually live.
Modes
| Mode | What changes |
|---|---|
| Classic | Standard pace. No timer. Play as many voyages as you want. |
| Daily Voyage | One shared word for everyone that calendar day (UTC). Fair board — skins do not change the word, the miss limit, or free power-ups on Daily. |
| Storm | Forty-five seconds on the clock. Timeout is a loss. Short, sharp runs. |
Classic is the house rhythm. Daily is the reason to open the game tomorrow. Storm is for when you have less than a minute.
Shop, skins, and doubloons
Wins pay doubloons (soft currency). Losses pay a small pity amount so a bad streak does not empty the purse. A daily chest and optional Crow’s Nest earn are in the loop for later.
Voyage skins change the look and the music pack. They do not change the dictionary, the six-miss rule, or Daily fairness. Current examples:
- Palm Atoll — island voyage
- All Hallows Wake — seasonal autumn
- Yule Tide Plank — seasonal winter
Boosts, titles, and Black Flag sit in the same shop. Skins are cosmetics. They are not pay-to-win.
Tips that actually help
- Start with common consonants and a vowel or two (R, S, T, L, N, E) before spending a Spyglass.
- If the word is short, a wrong letter hurts more. Be stingier with guesses; use Parrot to cut the alphabet.
- Storm is a different game. Do not play it like Classic. Burn the free Spyglass early if the clock is already half gone.
- Daily is one shot at a shared board. If you care about the result, do not open Storm by mistake and waste the day.
- Finish Widow’s Wake in The Chart Room on this device and Plankwalk can read a Cartographer stamp — a medal and title on the main deck. No shared wallet.
Why a plank
Hangman is old. The fail state is usually a stick figure. Plankwalk keeps the letter-guessing spine and changes what a miss means: a shove, a tighter frame, sharks you can see. That is the whole design. Short sessions, a clear ladder, mobile thumbs, optional daily.
